Body Composition Metric

BMI Calculator

Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) using your height and weight. Evaluate your standard WHO weight classification and estimate healthy weight boundaries.

Screen Your Weight Ratio

Enter your height and weight in either metric (kg/cm) or imperial (lbs/ft) units. The calculator evaluates your ratio against standardized health thresholds.

  • Immediate calculation with WHO classification categories
  • Calculates healthy weight boundaries for your exact height
  • Supports both Metric (kg/cm) and Imperial (lbs/ft) inputs
Your Estimated BMINormal Weight
23.7kg/m²
WHO Classification:Normal Weight
Healthy Weight Range for Your Height:58.6 kg – 78.9 kg

BMI is a population-level screening metric. It does not measure body fat percentage or lean muscle mass directly.

Calculation Formula

The Body Mass Index formula calculates weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared:

BMI = Weight (kg) / [Height (m)]²

Standard categories: Underweight (< 18.5), Normal Weight (18.5 – 24.9), Overweight (25.0 – 29.9), and Obesity (≥ 30.0).

Important Limitations

BMI is an epidemiological population screening tool, not a diagnostic measure of individual body composition or metabolic health.

It does not distinguish between lean skeletal muscle mass and subcutaneous/visceral fat tissue, nor does it account for bone density or age-related muscle atrophy.

QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers regarding Body Mass Index calculations and interpretations.

What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a screening metric that compares your body weight relative to your height (kg/m²). It is widely used by health organizations to categorize individuals into weight ranges.

Why does BMI often misclassify athletic individuals or lifters?

BMI cannot differentiate between lean muscle tissue and adipose fat tissue. Because muscle is denser than fat, individuals with significant muscle mass may register as "overweight" or "obese" despite having low body fat percentages.

What is considered a normal BMI range?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is categorized as normal weight for adults.

How should I use my BMI result?

BMI serves as a quick initial screening tool. For physique transformation, tracking body measurements, strength progression, and body fat percentage provides a much more accurate assessment.
